Student success increases when they are given experiences that allow them to construct geometric measurement ideas. In this hands-on session, we will play with the ideas of area and volume to support students in their geometric reasoning. In Grade 3, students begin to learn about area. This understanding lays the foundation as they move toward fifth grade and begin exploring volume of rectangular prisms. By seventh grade, students apply their understanding of volume to more complex shapes. In this session, we will engage in a few tasks that will help you to support your students as they construct their own understanding. The ideas we will explore will be applicable to teachers from Grades 3 – 8.
